BIRMINGHAM –A day of violence in Birmingham began with a drive-by shooting at 4 a.m. Saturday near 3rd Ave. North and 9th Street. Four people were shot when the occupant of a vehicle fired into the victims’ vehicle. One person suffered life-threatening injuries, according to WBRC.
A 15-year-old boy was fatally shot in the chest around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, AL.com reports.
The shooting reportedly took place at a convenience store a few blocks from Rickwood Field. Police said they did not yet know the motive behind the shooting, and did not provide information about any suspects. The victim’s identity is currently unknown.
The death marks Birmingham’s 108th homicide for 2017, bringing it close to last year’s total of 109.
At 9:30 p.m., police responded to the 1700 block of 32nd Place North near Norwood Elementary School where a man had been shot and was suffering from life-threatening injuries, according to the police.
