TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville City Council has approved a motion for Trussville residents to purchase new tags and renew car tags at city hall and online this spring.
A law passed by the State Legislature in April 2014 (SB374) allows cities in Jefferson County to issue motor vehicle registrations including issuing license plates. The goal is intended to remove the burden off the county courthouses and reduce wait times for residents.
Those seeking driver’s licenses and out-of-state tag transfers will still need to visit the county courthouse.
The council recently approved a contract with Ingenuity, Inc. to help the city establish a web-based program to handle the renewals process.
Mayor Buddy Choat said, “We hope to have the website up and ready by the first of April. It takes about 30 days to train everyone.”
