BIRMINGHAM — One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting occurred at the Days Inn in the 4600 block of Highway 280 Thursday, according to multiple reports.
One man, a white male adult, was killed in the shooting, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. An officer with the Birmingham Police Department was involved but was not harmed, according to Carol Robinson.
Authorities at the scene say police were called to the inn due to a suspicious man walking around the motel with a gun, and he did not comply when officers told him to drop the weapon. Authorities recovered the gun at the scene.
The officer has been taken to the department’s headquarters to be questioned on the shooting, which is standard procedure.

The race of the individual shot was not mentioned. How do I know whether or not to be outraged?

The victim was a member of the human race. That’s why it matters.
