BIRMINGHAM — An officer with the Birmingham Police Department was shot late Thursday night while investigating a possible drug house, according to posts by the department on social media.
The shooting occurred at 11:30 p.m. Thursday night.
“The officer was a part of an investigation into a drug house complaint,” the department said in a post. “While working that complaint an unknown individual or individuals shot into his car. The officers injuries are non life-threatening and (he) is OK.”
Birmingham police are investigating the shooting and searching for the suspect(s) responsible.
The department posted around 2:30 a.m. Friday morning that the officer had left the hospital and was “doing well.”
“Officer is doing well and walked out of the hospital about an hour or so ago,” said the department. “Our Mayor Randall Woodfin and Police Chief A.C. Roper both spoke with him at the hospital. Thank you for your support Birmingham.”
