One project provided a taste of home to a deployed military unit overseas. Another program supported a local community food pantry for the holidays this year. A third goal for the chapter was to help make Christmas a brighter time for the homeless veterans of the United States military at Three Hots and A Cot.
Monthly care packages to the unit overseas consisted primarily of coffee and tea, including various flavored and specialty varieties. Note cards and envelopes were added to help them stay in touch with their families. In addition, chapter members clipped coupons and attended deployment ceremonies in support of our active military.
At our October meeting, Jane Reeves from Clay United Methodist Church shared valuable information on the local community food pantry. She explained the mission of the program, the usual needs of the community, and expected additional requests for food items during the holidays. Chapter members were happy to help support this worthwhile project and gave to it generously.
Our Christmas project included providing sweat pants and shirts for every veteran at Three Hots and A Cot. Chapter members look forward to surprising the veterans with our gifts and a variety of home-baked goods, candies, and personal cards of gratitude for their service.
We are proud to be a lineage organization whose mission is historic preservation, including honoring our ancestors who served as patriots of the American Revolution; supporting the education of all citizens; and encouraging patriotism.
