BIRMINGHAM — The City of Birmingham is seeking volunteers for the BJCC South Hall warming station, which will be open all day Tuesday, Jan. 2., according to a release by city authorities.
Shifts are available from now to 9 p.m. To volunteer, please complete this form. Tuesday’s volunteers will be sorting clothes and serving dinner. Volunteer shifts to serve food on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are from 5 to 8 p.m.
As a reminder, the warming station will be at the BJCC South Hall Tuesday. It will close the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 9 a.m. so that crews can move cots and other supplies to Boutwell Auditorium, located at 1930 Rev. Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd.
As of now, the warming station will be located at Boutwell Auditorium from Jan. 3 – Jan. 5. During these days, the warming station will open at 5 p.m. and close at 9 a.m. on the following day.
There is a need for gloves, scarves and knit caps. Area restaurants and churches continue to provide evening meals, but supplemental food such as chili, soup and sandwiches are still needed.
