HOOVER –According to court records, Maurice Jerome Myers had been arrested 38 times on 75 charges since 1989. Just two weeks ago, he was released from prison, Carol Robinson reported.
Thursday night, Hoover police posted on social media that Myers had added to his long list of arrests after they charged him with several more crimes.
Here’s the account of Myers’ alleged latest crime spree as told by the Hoover PD.
Wednesday morning at 1:54 a.m., Hoover Police responded to a burglary alarm activation at Hibbett’s Sporting Goods located at 1615 Montgomery Highway. Officers arrived to find the front door glass shattered and the area around the cash register ransacked.
Video surveillance showed the suspect to be a black male, wearing a dark colored hoodie and toboggan, driving a white van. While on the scene of this burglary, officers were notified of a second burglary alarm activation at Package 150, located at 2798 John Hawkins Parkway. Responding officers discovered the front door shattered and several bottles of liquor missing from the store.
At approximately 2:50 a.m., officers spotted a van matching the description of the suspect vehicle parked at the Lake Crest Chevron and waited for the driver to exit the store. A male matching the description of the suspect approached the van and officers detained him.
He had bits of broken glass on his clothing and officers observed what appeared to be items taken from both burglaries inside the van. Officers also discovered that the vehicle’s ignition switch was damaged and later learned that it was reported stolen from Birmingham earlier in the night. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the Hoover City Jail.
At 7:06 a.m., Police responded to Ashley Mac’s located at 5299 Valleydale Road on another burglary. An employee arrived to find the front door glass shattered and a computer tablet missing. Detectives located the tablet inside the stolen van. The suspect was charged with the following:
Myers, 46, of Birmingham, was charged with three counts of Burglary in the 3rd degree and is being held on bonds totaling $195,000.
Myers is currently in the Jefferson County Jail. Additional charges against him are pending.
