WASHINGTON, D.C. — Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will not be present for President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday.
The 84-year-old judge will instead be giving a talk at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island, according to reports. The talk has been scheduled since August.
Ginsburg, who is the oldest member of the court, has also indicated that she does not plan to retire anytime soon, with the Washington Post reporting that she plans to stay on the court as long as she can go “full steam.”
Some have speculated that Ginsburg’s intent is to stay on the court until the end of Trump’s presidency, so that he would not have appointing power over her replacement. The two have often publicly clashed. Ginsburg has publicly criticized the president, while he has retorted on Twitter that “Her Mind is shot – resign!”
President Trump will give the State of the Union address — his first — Tuesday night.
