HOOVER – The school bus driver who crashed his vehicle on the Acton Road northbound exit ramp of Interstate 459 has been fired, according to Carol Robinson. The driver, Mark Pierce, was charged with a DUI on Jan. 31 after the crash occurred.
A special-called meeting of the Hoover City School Board in which Superintendent Kathy Murphy made the recommendation to fire Pierce. The firing was effective immediate with pay and benefits set to expire in 15 days.
Pierce’s blood alcohol content was measured at .15 after a field sobriety testing following the crash. There were no children on the bus when it left the road and into the wood line.
He was charged with Driving under the influence and taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he was eventually released pending a court date.
