President Donald Trump has formally authorized the release of a memo by U.S. Representative Devin Nunes on the FBI’s investigation into alleged interference with Trump’s victory in the 2016 presidential election, according to NPR. This comes after calls were made (particularly from Republican leaders including Trump himself) to release the memo.
The memo criticizes the FBI’s handling of the investigation, which has been called “politicized” by Trump. He made a comment recently on his Twitter account regarding the investigation.
“The top Leadership and Investigators of the FBI and the Justice Department have politicized the sacred investigative process in favor of Democrats and against Republicans – something which would have been unthinkable just a short time ago,” it said.
Nunes, a Republican representative of the 22nd congressional district in California, serves as chairman of the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. The memo alleges that the FBI misused surveillance warrants and that it showed bias against Trump as he ran for president in the U.S. election in 2016.
