Football players Simon Miskelley, a linebacker, and Logan Pitts, a wide receiver, signed with Chattanooga.
“Simon is a guy who brings it every day in practice,” said coach Josh Floyd. “He had energy every day. We had to tell him to slow it down in practice sometimes. He’s got a big-time future ahead of him. He ends his career with 256 tackles, three sacks and three interceptions. There was not a better linebacker in the state of Alabama.”
Pitts “started three years for us and I think he’s the best player at his position coming out this year,” Floyd said. “He’s got a big body and big hands and had over 1,500 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns.”
Pitts overcame a torn ACL his sophomore year to bounce back with a solid junior year and outstanding senior year.
Running back Elliott McElwain signed with Yale and defensive backs Myles Mason signed with Arkansas and George Steele signed with Jacksonville State.
Steele was the epitome of a “lockdown corner” Floyd said. “He works as hard as anybody I’ve ever seen him work. Jacksonville State is getting a big one.”
Mason “had opportunities all over the country” but he did miss quite a bit of time with injuries in his one season at Hewitt after transferring from Pleasant Grove. “He’s going to have a big-time future ahead of him. He’s a great kid on and off the field.”
McElwain was a three-year starter. “He ended up with over 4,000 yards rushing and receiving in his career,” Floyd said.
Soccer player Bri Davis signed with Mississippi College. Davis overcame a torn ACL before her junior year and is a captain of the Lady Huskies soccer team.
At Clay-Chalkville, linebacker Derek Bean and defensive back Jayin Mack signed with Arkansas State. Wide receiver Rod McCloud is heading to Itawamba CC. Offensive lineman Damon Moore signed with Delta State and linebacker D’Markes Davis signed with Lindsey Wilson in Kentucky.
Also, Kam Pruitt – who started his college career at Memphis, then went to Mesa, AR for junior college – signed with Campbell.
Pinson Valley’s LiAllen Dailey signed with Kentucky, Desmond Scott signed with Kennesaw State, Jackie Matthews signed with Mississippi Gulf Community College. Orion Morris signed with Tuskegee and Dilan Henderson signed with East Tennessee State. Ezekiel Lawrence is headed to Antelope Valley Community College.
