Teachers are teaming up to host the second annual Shamrock 5k run and one-mile family fun run / walk and are looking for ways to give back to the Magnolia community.
Leigh Riley, one of the organizers for the event, said the run will serve as a fundraiser to raise money to meet the needs of the students, teachers and the Magnolia community.
“Last year we were able to purchase a new PA system for the gym,” said Riley. “This year we are polling the Magnolia community, teachers and students through our Facebook page for suggestions to better serve the community and the needs of our school.”
The Magnolia Shamrock 5k event is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. March 17 at Magnolia Elementary School and the family fun run to follow.
The run will start at Magnolia Elementary, continue into the Magnolia community and finish at the elementary school. The family fun run will take place in the elementary school parking lot.
Registration fee for the race is $25 for adults, $15 for students 18-under and includes a race T-shirt, water bottle and goodie bag. The family fun run is $10 and includes a water bottle and a goodie bag. T-shirts will be on sale for $10 on the day of the race.
“We are excited to offer chip timing in the year’s race,” said Riley. “Some of our cash sponsors were able to help us make this happen.”
Registration forms for both the 5k and family race is available online at www. magnoliaelem.al.tce.schoolinsites.com. Registration on the day of the race will be accepted.
All student 5k participants will receive race medals once they reach the finish line. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in both races.
“This is a great time of year to hold this race,” said Riley. “The kids really enjoy participating. We have class incentives and a shamrock store to get them race ready.”
