HOOVER –Quick action from a friend and some nifty police work by Birmingham officers helped rescue a couple kidnapped from a Hoover motel.
Hoover police said the couple had been kidnapped by two men from a Hoover motel on Highway 31 on Saturday, according to WBRC.
Eric Wayne Hinson, Jr., 19. of Birmingham, and Stanley Keith Densmore, Jr., 24, of Hoover, were both charged with two counts first degree kidnapping and two counts of first degree robbery.
According to reports, the couple were taken by gunpoint from the Econo Lodge on Highway 31 near Interstate 65 at 2:58 a.m. on Saturday. They were allegedly forced into a car by Densmore and Hinson and then driven to several ATM machines where they were forced to withdraw money.
The suspects then used the couple’s cell phone and called someone from their contacts and threatened to kill the couple if $600 wasn’t delivered to a Green Springs Highway location.
That person contacted the Birmingham police who worked quickly to set up a sting to apprehend the suspects. When the suspects arrived at the location, police moved in and, after a short chase, rescued the couple and arrested Densmore and Hinson.
UPDATED: Accused kidnappers have long criminal history
“It’s safe to say that every Hoover police officer is familiar with Eric Hinson and Stanley Densmore. They have been a plague on our city for quite some time and we deal with them often. This was Hinson’s sixth arrest and Densmore’s 17th,” Hoover police Capt. Gregg Rector told Carol Robinson. “They’re trouble and their violent actions last night is just more proof that they belong in prison.
“Our cities are safer today because Hinson and Densmore are locked up,” Rector said.
The suspects are being held in the Jefferson County jail.
