The high school baseball season caught a break from the rain and was presented a perfect day on Monday as the prep season got underway.
Hewitt-Trussville opened with a sweep of Bob Jones, defeating the Patriots 7-2 and 2-0 in a doubleheader. Carson Skipper started the opener and pitched five innings, allowing one hit, and struck out five. Ed Johnson followed with two innings, fanning four.
In the nightcap, Walker Sahagun hurled a three-hit shutout and stuck out eight.
Clay-Chalkville knocked off Leeds 7-2. The junior varsity followed with a 15-2 win in five innings.
Pinson Valley traveled to Pelham to take on Shelby County and Pelham. The Indians fell 15-0 to Pelham. The score from the other game was not available.
Soccer: Clay-Chalkville’s boys won the bronze division of the Lakeshore Shootout. Emmanuel Mendez was MVP while Denilson Mercado made the all-tourney team.
Hewitt-Trussville’s girls beat Thompson 3-0 as JordanLynn scored two goals and Sarah Merzano scored one.
