Wayne Lee has been elevated to the head football coach position at Pell City.
Lee, who was head coach at Pinson Valley High School from 1999-2008 and coached current Clay-Chalkville head coach Drew Gilmer, will now be a rival in Class 6A, Region 6 with the Indians and Gilmer’s Cougars.
Lee has been the defensive coordinator at Pell City, where he’s been for nine seasons.
He replaces Keith Etheredge, who left to go to T.R. Miller. Pell City went 12-10 and made the 6A playoffs both times in Etheredge’s two seasons as head coach. The Panthers were 6-5 last season.
Lee was approved by the St. Clair County School Board in a meeting this month and will also be the athletics director. His wife is the Pell City girls basketball coach.
Lee has served under head coaches Jay Brown, Brooks Dampeer, David Shores and Etheredge.
Before coming to Pell City, Lee served 10 years as the head coach at PVHS, recording a 52-56 record. His teams made six playoff appearances and was crowned the region champions during his first year as the head coach. The Indians advanced to the second round of the state playoffs twice during his tenure at PVHS.
