ADAMSVILLE – A man from Cordova has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses after he allegedly attempted to flee from an officer and was chased by a K-9, according the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The man allegedly punched the K-9 before he was taken into custody.
Responding to a call from Adamsville Police for assistance, Zachary Hunt, 26, of Cordova, was pulled over on Highway 75 in Adamsville at around 5 p.m. on March 5. According to the sheriff’s office, Hunt had several outstanding warrants on him. When the deputy tried to arrest him, Hunt resisted and fled on foot into a wooded area.
The officer’s K-9 was able to locate Hunt in the woods where they struggled. Hunt allegedly punched and kicked the dog before the officer found them. The dog was able to “hold his ground” and Hunt was taken into custody. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Hunt was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he is being held without bond. In addition to new charges of resisting arrest, attempting to elude, and interference with a police animal, he has been charged with failing to appear in court on charges of receiving stolen property, possession of a short barreled rifle, unlawful possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
