UPDATE: The Birmingham Police Department confirmed that the victim died from his injuries. Identification of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of family.

BIRMINGHAM — A suspect has been detained in connection with a shooting that left one person in the Ensley neighborhood of Birmingham with injuries, according to Lt. Peter Wiliston of the Birmingham Police Department.
The shooting occurred at 8:19 a.m. today at 29th Street in Ensley. A 29-year old adult black male was shot multiple times and was taken to UAB Hospital where he was treated for severe injuries.
A suspect has been taken into custody by police. No further details have been released as authorities continue to investigate.
