MONTGOMERY –According to political columnist Steve Flowers, Milton McGregor died at his home in Montgomery on Saturday night.
He was 78-years-old.
“Milton McGregor passed away at his home in Montgomery last night around 11:30. He was beloved by a lot of Alabamians, including me. I’ll miss my friend,” Flowers tweeted.
McGregor was a colorful figure known for his dog tracks and bingo casinos, he constantly challenged the state of Alabama as to the legality of electronic bingo.
He owned Victoryland in Shorter and the Birmngham Race Course in Birmingham.
McGregor stood trial on corruption charges related to gambling in 2012, but was acquitted.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Turner McGregor, daughter Kim McGregor and husband Dan Hix, daughter Cindy and husband Lewis Benefield and seven grandchildren.
