BIRMINGHAM – The victim of a homicide in west Birmingham has been identified, according to Lt. Pete Williston of the Birmingham Police Department. Richard Roberts, 23, of Adamsville, died of a gunshot wound yesterday. No suspects have been identified so far.
At around 8:24 p.m. officers from the West Precinct responded to a report of a person being shot at 1800 block of Francis Avenue. They discovered Roberts lying on the ground between two houses. He was suffering from a gunshot wound.
Roberts was transported to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
During the investigation, officers learned that Roberts was working on a car when another car drove by. The occupant of the car began firing at him. Roberts tried to flee but was struck.
