From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE –Hewitt-Trussville and Grissom opened the Tuesday night game with a pair of runs each in what appeared to be the beginning of an offensive fireworks show. But what followed was a defensive stand-off that ended in a thriller.
Carson Skipper started on the mound for the Huskies and finished there as well, going the distance.
The score remained knotted at two runs a piece until the bottom of the 3rd inning. With one out, Austin Bittle took a walk, Jacob Bishop single, and Zach Defnall was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ed Johnson then smacked a single to score Bittle, giving the Huskies a 3-2 lead going into the 5th.
Grissom plated a run in the 5th inning and again in the 6th to take a 4-3 lead that they would hold until the bottom of the 7th.
Skipper helped his cause by leading off with a single. Tyler Maudlin followed with a single that moved Skipper to third. Michael Fowler sacrificed Skipper home to tie the game at 4.
Davis Burgin was then hit by a pitch as was Caden Kirk in order behind him. With the bases loaded, Bittle singled in the winning run and handed the Huskies a 5-4 win in region play.
