Michael Claude Watson, 50, formerly of the Bangor Volunteer Fire Department pleaded guilty to two felonies after his 2013 arrest for allegedly misusing public funds, according to Carol Robinson.
Watson was accused of using public funds in excess of $2,500. According to the report, Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey said that he had also converted $1,476 for personal use during his stint at the department. He was said to be paying for internet and phone service for family members using the funds.
He received a 24-month suspended sentence and was placed on supervised probation for three years. Restitution will take place in the future.
