SPRINGVILLE — Matthew Lee Moore, 48, a former security guard from Springville accused of perpetrating a series of sexual assaults, has been linked to two unsolved cases through DNA evidence, according to Carol Robinson. He has been accused of sexual assaults in areas in Georgia.
The DNA evidence links Moore to an assault in Homewood in 2008 and one in Birmingham in 2010. In the Homewood he is suspected in an incident in which a prostitute was attacked inside a motel room. She was able to draw and gun and shot the man, who fled the scene but left blood behind.
The case in Birmingham is still an ongoing investigation, according to the report. In 2017, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Metro Area Crime Center began investigating the reported cases as the work of a serial rapist. DNA evidence was analyzed by using a Combined DNA Index System.
A case involving a 64-year-old victim in Florida led police to the St. Clair County Correctional Facility where Moore was arrested.
