BIRMNGHAM — A suspect surrendered to a security guard as he tried to rob a Synovus Bank in Birmingham, according to Lt. Pete Wiliston of the Birmingham Police Department.
Police say that the incident took place yesterday morning at 9:11 a.m. when Benjamin Madison, 37, walked into Synovus Bank, located at Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd, and drew a gun. He allegedly walked up to a teller with the weapon drawn but was engaged by an armed security guard. The suspect surrendered immediately and got on the ground where he was held at gunpoint by the guard until Birmingham Police arrived and took him into custody.
Two warrants were issued by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office charging Madison with robbery in the first degree and certain persons prohibited. He will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail on a $60,000 bond for the robbery charge and $15,000 bond for the certain persons prohibited charge, totaling $75,000.
