TRUSSVILLE –UPDATED: 10:44 p.m. – According to Fire Chief Tim Shotts, “The scene has been cleared. All roads open. All those who evacuated are clear to return home.”
A tanker truck ran off the road on Sunday in Trussville has responders on the scene securing the area.
According to Trussville police, units from the Trussville Police Department along with hazmat units from the Trussville Fire and Rescue are on the scene of an incident at the intersection of Floyd Bradford Road and Dollar Road.
“A tanker trailer containing methane gas failed to negotiate a turn at that intersection causing the trailer to slide off the roadway into a ditch,” Detective Michael Bruce said. “Both streets are closed in the area and departments are working to evacuate homes within a half mile of the incident location.”
At the present time no gas is leaking from the trailer and the evacuation is only a precautionary measure. Floyd Bradford Road is currently closed to traffic at Cahaba Parc Drive.
Fire chief Tim Shotts said a crane would life the truck back onto the roadway,
“The incident and evacuation is expected to last until at least midnight and residents affected by the evacuation are urged to contact the Trussville Police Department at 205-655-2101 before they return home to make sure its all clear.
