BIRMINGHAM — Police are investigating a homicide that took place yesterday at the 1400 block of 36th Street North in Birmingham. According to Lt. Pete Wiliston from the Birmingham Police Department, the homicide may be related to drug activity in the area.
The victim was identified as Darien Haslip, a black male who was 24 years old and was found by officers from the North Precinct at 6:33 p.m. on Sunday. Haslip was suffering from gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead at the scene. He was found by a friend, which led to calling the police.
Police later found evidence of drug activity at the scene. Investigators are conducting interviews to find out what led to the homicide.
