HOOVER –Hewitt-Trussville starter Michael Fowler got off to a rough start giving up two 2-run homers in Game 1 before settling in for a solid performance on the mound. Fowler was relieved by Walker Sahagun after 4 2/3 innings. The two combined to hold Hoover scoreless the rest of the way, but the 4 run inning stood up for the Bucs as the Huskies battled back, but fell short in the 4-2 loss.
The game was the first of the Friday doubleheader. Game 2 begins at 7:30 p.m. Game 3, if neccessary, will be at Hoover on Saturday. Hoover now leads the best of three series 1 -0.
In the bottom of the first, Hoover’s Sam Sanford advanced after being hit by a pitch and Peyton Wilson homered to give the Bucs a 2-0 lead. Sonny DiChiara followed with a single and Preston Moore brought him home with Hoover’s second homerun of the inning.
The Huskies’ battled back in the third inning when Ed Johnson walked and advanced to second. Tyler Mauldin knocked Johnson in to cut the score to 4-1 Bucs.
Hewitt-Trussville struck again in the 4th inning when Caden Kirk reached on an error and took 2nd base. Creed Parker entered as a courtesy runner for Kirk. Keith Lanum then singled, scoring Parker to cut the Hoover lead to 4-2.
The Huskies left two runners on base in the seventh inning.
