From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
HOOVER –Hewitt-Trussville, the home team in Game 2, looked like a team on a mission when they came to bat in the bottom of the first inning. But three straight hits and a walk couldn’t score a run as Ed Johnson was picked off going to third and Zach Defnall lined into a double play to end the inning at 0-0.
It didn’t matter. The Huskies offensive assault was just getting warmed up.
On the mound for the Huskies, Skipper Carson was serving chaos across the plate to Hoover batters, striking out 13 on the night. He struckout the side in the 3rd inning and again to close out the game in the 7th.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Jacob Bishop got things going for the Huskies when he singled in Keith Lanum and Johnson. A single by Preston Jones scored Bishop and Defnall to give Hewitt-Trussville a 4-0 lead.
Caden Kirk then scored on an error to put the Huskies ahead 5-0.
The Bucs fought back in the 4th when Peyton Wilson scored on a Preston Moore single, but that was all Hoover could muster.
The Huskies got the run back and more in the bottom of the 4th when Tyler Mauldin singled in Austin Bittle who was running for Skipper. Bishop then singled in Creed Parker who was running for Mauldin. Hewitt-Trussville had the 7-1 lead headed to the 5th inning.
In the 5th, Lanum singled and Caden Kirk scored to give the Huskies the 8-1 final.
The Hewitt-Trussville win tied the series at 1-1. The deciding game will be at Hoover on Saturday at 2 p.m.
