At a special called meeting last night, the Pinson Council approved two resolutions and a certificate recognizing the Rudd Middle School boys and girls track team and the cheerleading team.
The council called this special meeting on Thursday, April 27 to recognize the teams during Pinson’s City Fest Saturday, April 28 in Bicentennial Park.
Resolutions 18-17 and 18-18 recognize the coach and team members for their outstanding work and dedication to the 2017 season.
The resolutions mention the following details:
“Whereas, extra-curricular activities, such as sports, allow young people the opportunity to learn the valuable skills of teamwork and cooperation while developing their athletic talent.”
“The 2017 Rudd Middle School (boys/girls) track team had another exceptional season winning the Jefferson County Track and Field County Championship in April 2018. Now it be resolved that the Mayor and Council of the City of Pinson desire to recognize the coach and team members for their outstanding work and dedication to the 2017 season.”
The Rudd Middle School cheerleaders were also recognized for their hard work and dedication for the season.
In other business, the council approved a bid with Wright Construction to install an asphalt connector from the Bicentennial Park roadway to the concrete grilling pad. Wright Construction proposal includes furnishing all labor, materials, and equipment necessary to complete the scope of work, which consists of the following:
- Grade 185SF area to -4 to prepare for new stone base and asphalt;
- Installation of new stone base and a minimum of 2″ hot mix asphalt (424A) at 37′ long and 5′ wide to connect existing concrete grilling pad to roadway with slope not to exceed 8%;
- Leave work area in a neat and orderly fashion; and
- Project cost is $2,500.
The Pinson City Council will meet again on Thursday, May 5 beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a work session and Council meeting to follow at 7 p.m.
