GRAYSON VALLEY –A body believed to be that of a missing 65-year-old Grayson Valley man was located about 9:45 a.m. on Saturday in a wooded area near Old Springville Road and Chalkville Mountain Road.
Around 9:45 a.m., a searcher discovered a male body believed to be David Paul Crumley in a wooded area near Old Springville Road and Chalkville Mountain Road.
65-year-old Crumley was reported missing by his mother Monday evening when he did not return from one of his customary walks. Crumley was known to walk the roads in the Clay, Grayson Valley and Trussville areas for hours at a time.
His family and members of the local community had desperately been searching for him, offering a $1.000 reward was information leading to his return.
“It is with a very heavy heart that we have found our son, brother, uncle and friend, David Crumbley. This was not the outcome we hoped for, but closure is good, Crumley’s family posted of scial media.
“Through this process, we have met wonderful strangers, friends have joined us from all over, and our family is united. Thank you, once again, for the love, assistance, food, and prayers. We love you all. Be kind to one another.”
It was reported that he left his home in the 2100 block of Brewster Road around 9:00 am Monday morning. When he had not returned by 7 p.m. his mother contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report him missing.
Deputies and volunteers searched for him through the week using drones, a helicopter, and ATV’s.
The remains will be taken to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office for positive identification and to determine the cause of death. Foul play is not suspected.
