RUSSELLVILLE –The Springville Tigers split a doubleheader with Russellville on Friday in what could only be described as a scoring fest.
Game 1
Springville and Russellville combined for 37 hits and 34 runs in a baseball game that seemed more like a pinball game at times, as the Tigers posted a 19-15 win.
The Tigers were led by a lights-out performance from Ivan Cornelius and Chase Isbell at the plate, but they certainly weren’t alone.
Cornelius went 4 for 5 from the plate while collecting 6 RBI and scoring 3 runs. Isbell was 4 for 6 with 5 RBI and scored 4 runs.
Brant Brown and Justin Bromley also had big games with 4 RBI each.
Springville jumped out to a 14-1 after 3 innings and held off a late surge by Russellville to get the win.
Braden Hughes was the winning pitcher for the Tigers.
Game 2
Hughes had the hot bat in the second game, going 2 for 3 at the plate with 3 RBI and scored twice. Isbell also went 2 for 3 and collected an RBI.
In a reversal of Game 1, it was Russellville that grabbed the early lead, jumping out front 1-0 after the first inning and stretching the lead to 8-3 after 4.
Still, a 3 run 5th inning had the Tigers within striking distance, trailing just 8-6. Then the bottom fell out.
Russellville knocked out Springville with a 10 run 6th inning that included a grand slam homerun on their way to the 18-7 win.
The rubber game is at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
