Birmingham, AL–Jefferson County District Attorney Mike Anderton has been endorsed by the conservative Alabama Republican Assembly (ARA) in the June 5th Republican primary.
Anderton was appointed District Attorney by Governor Kay Ivey in 2017 when the position became vacant. He is now seeking election to the office of District Attorney.
The Alabama Republican Assembly released their slate of endorsements on May 5th. Numerous statewide offices, as well as two Congressional races, received endorsements by the ARA.
Anderton was the only District Attorney candidate in Alabama endorsed by the ARA.
Anderton said in a statement:
“I’m proud to receive this endorsement from the Alabama Republican Assembly. My promise to them, and to the people of Jefferson County, is that I will continue to do what I’ve been doing in the DA’s office for 34 years: uphold the law, seek the truth, and work to see justice done both for offenders and their victims and victim’s families.”
The ARA said in their endorsement that “these outstanding individuals…are committed to conservative values, the rule of law, and changing the corrupt culture in state politics.”
An Affiliate of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies, the ARA calls itself “The Republican Wing of the Republican Party.” It is the largest Republican group in Alabama other than the Alabama GOP.
This is Anderton’s first political race. He is a native of Birmingham, and lives in east Jefferson County with his wife of 36 years, Margaret.
The couple have 3 children and 3 grandchildren.
