CENTER POINT — Center Point High School’s boys and girls won 2018 Jefferson County Track and Field Championship at Corner High School in April with a score of 167 points. The recent win is the second championship for the boys team.
Kelvin Cole won placed first in the triple jump and second in the 100-meter sprint. Jaylen Stephens placed second place in the one mile and two mile runs. Jonathan Rowe placed second in the discus and shot put throws.
Tiger Wilborn placed third in the javelin throw, while Jared Jones placed third in the shot put throw and Desmond Earl placed third in the discus throw. The 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relay teams placed first and the 4 x 800 meter relay team finished in second place.
Center Point Boys County and Team MVP Jalen Aibogun won four gold medals for a total of 25 points. Aibogun placed first in the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. He was part of the 4 x 100 meter and 4 x 400 meter relay teams that placed first.
Aibogun also won the gold medal in the 300-meter hurdles during the Alabama High School Association 6A State Track and Field Championship during the weekend. He placed third in the 110-meter hurdles and has both the 110 and 300-meter hurdle school records at the high school.
The girls track team finished in first place with a score of 142 points.
Mia Speights finished third place in the discus throw while Erica Drake placed second in the shot put and A’doll Gray placed first in the high jump. D’Angel Gray placed first in the shot put and second in the discus throw. Center Point Girls County and Team MVP KenJada Hutchinson finished in first place in the 200-meter dash and second in the 400-meter dash. She also won second place on the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relay team with 23 points.
