MONTGOMERY –An eight to seven advantage in hits didn’t account for more runs as Springville fell to Moody 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
Moody took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the third on a Heaven Jackson single that scored Lilly Crowe.
The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the third after McKenzie Spivey singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Heather LeVan. A McKenzie Brown single followed by a Kaylee Chapman double put runners on second and third. Dakota Dorsett singled, driving in both Brown and Chapman to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead.
In the top of the fourth, with the bases loaded and two outs, Lindsey Richardson hit a grand slam to put the Blue Devils up for good 5-3.
The Tigers were only able to put together multiple hits and threaten in the bottom of the seventh as Spivey and Piper Long both singled. Brown then reached on an error loading the bases with only one out. Moody pitcher Madison Sanders forced Chapman to fly out and Dorsett grounded out to end the game.
Even without a recorded strikeout, Sanders pitched a complete game, giving up eight hits, three earned runs and walked just one batter. Lindsey Richardson lead all Blue Devil hitters going 2-for-3 with a grand slam and four RBI’s.
Abby Swaney gave up one earned run on seven hits recording three strikeouts and three walks in a losing effort. Dakota Dorsett lead all hitters going 1-for-4 with two RBI’s.
Moody will face Rehobeth Thursday morning with a 9:00 a.m. first pitch.
