MONTGOMERY –The three-time state champion Springville Tigers will get a chance to defend their title after fighting through the losers bracket and slapping Rehobeth out of the way to face Moody for the 5A title.
The Tigers took the long road home after dropping a round two game to Moody.
Rehobeth took a one run lead in the second inning before the Tigers went on a tear, scoring 4 in the third. Piper Long started the scoring with an RBI single, followed by Mckenzie Brown’s RBI double that ultimately scored two runs on an error. That put Springville up 3-1 before Dakota Dorsett’s RBI double made it a 4-1 game.
Rehobeth picked up a run in the bottom of the third to close the game to 4-2, but that wouldn’t be nearly enough to keep the game close.
In the top of the fourth, the Tigers unleashed the bats for seven runs.
Mckinzie Spivey, Long, and Brown all had an RBI before Dorsett slammed a 2 RBI single. Makaylyn Kyser capped the scoring with a 2 RBI double. When the dust settled, Springville led 11-2.
A solo homer in the fourth and a grand slam in the fifth closed the gap to 11-7 helped keep it respectable for Rehobeth, but it wasn’t enough.
Springville will face Moody and will have to win twice to claim the state title.
