TRUSSVILLE — After five races in the state, the Hewitt Mountain Bike Team placed second overall in Division 1 after the “Rumble on the Ridge” competition at Oak Mountain on May 6.
“Mountain bike racing at the interscholastic level has only been in Alabama for four years, and the Hewitt team has grown from 13 riders in year one to 37 riders this year, in year four,” said a statement by Hewitt-Trussville High School. “The race venues this season were held at Tannehill State Park, Chewacla State Park in Auburn, Munny Sokol Park in Tuscaloosa, Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, and the State Championships at Oak Mountain State Park.”
The team has ranked top 3 for four years in a row. Its senior team member, Brandon Weir, is state champion of the Varsity Boys class for 2018. Next year, he will continue cycling at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.
