PINSON — Gunfire was reportedly exchanged early on Sunday morning in Pinson after a resident said that she surprised a thief on her mother’s property. The alleged thief was not brought into custody and remains at large, according to the witness.
Jerrica Graves of Pinson said that early this morning she was woken by her mother who believed that someone was going through her car at her residence on Berrywood Road. Graves went to investigate and turned the lights on before seeing a man in front of the house. She said that she asked him what he was doing but the man began running. Graves fired two shots as the man fled to his car and left.
Graves gave chase in her vehicle and pursued him across Highway 79 and into the back roads where he allegedly fired two shots. She said that at another point, the man got out and fired again before he fled. She pursued him to a road where there was a dead end and decided to stop and call authorities.
She said that authorities searched the area but could not find him. She also said she was told that the car the man was driving was reported stolen. The car is described as a green Z71.
Graves said that cash, a gun, a baby stroller and sunglasses were taken out of her mother’s car.
The suspect was described as a white male with closely cut hair, standing at five feet, 11 inches and approximately 30 to 35 years old. His build is said to be slim and he has tattoos on his right arm as well as glasses and a watch on his right wrist.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-5700.
A camera at the property captured images of the man that Graves described.
