It appears that Pinson Valley High School’s football team is set to open the 2018 season along with Hewitt-Trussville High School on ESPN, according to Joe Cochran of Pinson. Full details on Hewitt-Trussville’s game are not yet known, though the opponent is scheduled to be Cedar Grove High School out of Georgia.
Last year, PHVS led an undefeated season on the way to Alabama’s 6A state title while Hoover claimed the 7A championship.
The opening game will take place at the Hoover Met on Saturday, August 25, where PVHS will square off with Hoover High School at 11 a.m. Hewitt-Trussville vs Cedar Grove is tentatively set to play at 3 p.m.
In Cedar Grove, the Huskies will face a team coming off of a 23 game winning streak. the longest in the history of DeKalb County, Georgia. The loss for the defending Georgia state champions came in the semi-finals of the 2017 playoffs.
The game will put four University of Alabama commitments and one University of Georgia commitment on the field at the same time.
The Huskies are led by three Crimson Tide commitments in quarterback Paul Tyson, five-star lineman Pierce Quick and junior receiver Dazalin Worsham.
Cedar Grove (Ga.) will match-up with five-star receiver Jadon Haselwood, the state of Georgia’s No. 1 prospect who has committed to the Bulldogs, and University of Alabama commitment Rashad Cheney, a defensive lineman.
