ESCAMBIA COUNTY — A Humvee wreck on I-65 North left one Alabama National Guard soldier dead and one sent to an area hospital and later released. The accident occurred this morning at around 10 a.m.
The crash happened at near mile marker 64 north of Atmore. The identification of the solider who died has not been released pending notification of family.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of this Soldier, and are praying for and thinking of the family,” the Alabama National Guard said in a statement. We do not have additional details on the incident at this time. The Alabama National Guard will conduct an investigation into the cause of the investigation. Out of respect for the family, the service member’s name is being withheld until 24 hours after the next of kin has been notified.”
