BIRMINGHAM – The Birmingham Police Department reported on Friday, July 13, that detectives made an arrest in connection with a robbery investigation that occurred at the King City Food Mart located at 1535 Warrior Road. The suspect was identified after surveillance photos were highlighted through the media.

The robbery ocurred on Friday, June 22, at 3:35 p.m. at King City Food Mart. According to police, the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Darelle Chatman, entered the convenience store and made his way behind the counter and presented a handgun to the clerk before taking money from the register. Chatman and the clerk began to struggle just before the suspect fired the gun at the clerk and left the scene on foot. There were no injuries during the robbery.
Robbery and theft of property warrants were obtained against Chatman who has also been charged with attempted murder in an unrelated case. Chatman was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
