BIRMINGHAM – On Wednesday, July 18, the Birmingham Park Board will consider a vote to expand a portion of the Legion Field complex into additional tailgating and vendor space for an increased fan experience during this year’s Magic City Classic.
The expansion will also offer and additional $50k to $70k in revenue benefiting both Alabama A&M and Alabama State Universities.
Game day parking will continue to be made available on the Eastern side of the stadium in addition to multiple shuttle services transporting fans from the Sheraton and other locations throughout the city.
“Tomorrow we are at a pivotal point,” Councilor William Parker said. “As we approach the Magic City Classic we always want to make sure there is a balance between revenue opportunities for the city and the universities involved while also making sure we address the parking issues. Tomorrow we will see if the Park Board shares the vision of the city.”
The meeting will be held at Legion Field at 9 a.m. on July 18.
