SYLVAN SPRINGS — A woman from Sylvan Springs was charged with murder following the Saturday, July 14 incident in which a man was shot and killed. His wife was arrested at the scene and later charged in his slaying.

Amanda Leigh Hilyer, 33, was charged in the murder of Keith Hilyer, 41, in a domestic violence case, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. On July 14, deputies responded to 200 block of Oak Lane in Sylvan Springs where Keith Hilyer was found dead at the end of a street. Amanda Hilyer was arrested at the scene.

Deputies learned that there was an argument between the two at the street when Amanda Hilyer broke into a neighbor’s car and took a handgun from it. According to the sheriff’s office, she used the gun to shoot and kill Keith Hilyer. The gun was recovered at the scene.
On Monday, July 16, warrants were obtained against Amanda Hilyer, formally charging her with murder unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, and theft of property in the second degree. She is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on bonds totaling $100,000.
