ADGER — The victim of a homicide in the Adger community has been identified and deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office have the suspect in custody.
The victim was identified as 29-year-old Jonathan Carroll of Adger. On Saturday morning, a man called the sheriff’s office and reported that he had shot and killed another man that he had an altercation with on an access road to a gas well in the 4100 block of Valley Ford Road. When deputies arrived, they located the caller, who took them to the area where the victim was.
“Detectives learned that the man and Carroll had been riding the dirt roads and had gotten into an argument,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “The man told them he and Carroll had gotten into an argument and he had shot Carroll in self-defense. Detectives developed evidence that did not support this claim.”
Authorities are withholding the name of the suspect pending formal charges.
