TRUSSVILLE – The Trussville City Schools announced Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Jennifer Abney as the new Magnolia Elementary School principal. Abney replaces Dr. Autumm Jeter.
Abney has been an assistant principal at Hewitt-Trussville High School since 2012. Before her time as assistant principal,she was a teacher at Hewitt-Trussville High School and Clay-Chalkville Middle School.
In the spring of 2018, Abney participated in the principal mentorship program at Magnolia Elementary School under the leadership of Jeter.
“Ms. Abney was a shining star during the mentorship program at Magnolia Elementary School,” said Superintendent Dr. Pattie Neill. “She shadowed Dr. Jeter for five weeks and Mrs. Abney was acting principal during the mentor program for 2 weeks in May 2018. Mrs. Abney knows the faculty and staff and fell in love with the students and the school during the mentorship experience. With school starting soon, we are proud to name Mrs. Abney as the new principal because of her expertise, familiarity, and experience at Magnolia and in Trussville City Schools.”
Abney holds a Master’s in Instructional Leadership from Samford University, a Bachelor of Science in Physical education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She was a Collegiate Athlete at LaGrange College participating in Volleyball and Softball and she has coached volleyball, basketball, and softball.
The faculty and staff of Magnolia Elementary School are invited to drop by the Magnolia office to visit Abney next Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday from 12:00 – 2:00 pm.
