From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE – Sidewalks and curbs off N. Chalkville Rd. are getting a facelift in an effort by the City of Trussville to enhance safety and create awareness in the community.
”There is so much traffic on N. Chalkville Road, not just from Trussville residents, but commuters from our neighboring cities,” said Trussville Mayor Buddy Choat. “There are many joggers, walkers, and school children who are crossing near these busy areas. We want to create an awareness for motorist to slow down.”
The City is currently completing the installation of five crosswalks from Lake Street to Oak Street along N. Chalkville Road.
The Mayor explains that the new crosswalks will be an additional safety measure to the radar signs installed by the city last year near Cahaba and Magnolia Elementary Schools.
”These radar signs have seemed to make a difference in the speed of traffic in these areas,” said Choat.
In addition to the crosswalks being installed on Lake Street, Magnolia Street, Oak Street, and the North and South Mall, the City is knocking out curbs in an effort to become handicap accessible.
