From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
A public health alert has been issued by the The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service for beef, pork and poultry salad and wrap products distributed by Caito Foods LLC.
According to the announcement, there are concerns that lettuce in the products are contaminated with Cyclospora, an intestinal parasite that can incubate from two to 14 days. The lettuce was supplied by Fresh Express.
“FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators and that consumers may be at risk due to the length of the Cyclospora incubation period,” the announcement said. “Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Caito Foods LLC and FSIS are working together to remove the products from commerce.”
No illnesses have been reported. A list of the affected products can be seen here and here.
