From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE –The former Lone Star Steakhouse in Trussville was destroyed by a fire Friday night. The building was undergoing renovations for a planned Mexican restaurant when the fire broke out. No injuries were reported.
The building is located at 4720 Norrel Drive between the Cracker Barrel and Quality Inn and across the street from Applebee’s. The entire roof structure collapsed early on as flames shot 20 to 30 feet above the building. None of the neighboring structures were damaged.
According to Trussville Fire and Rescue Chief Tim Shotts, all fire units in Trussville responded to the blaze. Center Point Fire Department also sent units to assist.
Firefighters battled the blaze in shifts, relieving one another to re-hydrate and cool down before returning to the job.
Several off-duty personnel from TFRD were also on hand assisting the firefighters on duty.
“When we got here, the structure was already well involved and burning through the roof,” Shotts said.
He said he wasn’t aware of anyone in the building at the time the fire started.
An investigation will begin to determine the cause of the fire and Shotts said it would take a while to complete. Fire personnel will remain on site throughout the night to keep an eye on the structure in case fires blaze back up.
