BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department is conducting an investigation after a suspect was brought into custody who is believed to have fired shots at an officer. No injuries were reported in the incident.
At around 10 a.m. on Sunday morning, an officer from the East Precinct heard nearby gunshots as he was attempting to arrest a burglary suspect at the the 100 block of 68th Street North. Backup was called before they located a black, female shooter that they believed were firing in the officer’s direction.
The suspect was brought into custody without injuries and no shots were fired by Birmingham police officers. The burglary suspect fled from the scene but was later located and arrested by the BPD Crime Reduction Team.
The female suspect’s name will be released pending formal charges, the BPD said.
