TRUSSVILLE – On Monday, August 20, the Trussville City Schools Board of Education met for their August board meeting and pre-work shop.
Before approving a light agenda, the Board recognized HTHS alumni and longtime coach, Hal Riddle, who was awarded the 2018 Fellowship of Christian Athletes “Bubba” Scott Lifetime Achievement Award. Riddle received this award during the Alabama High School Athletic Association FCS Luncheon in July.
“Herman L. “Bubba” Scott, was the second full-time executive director in Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA),” said Riddle. “Scott was instrumental in bringing FCA to the Alabama schools more than 40 years ago. Scott, along with another coach, prayed about the program and it became a reality.”
Another recognition was presented by Alabama Senator Shay Shelnutt (District 17), who presented a State of Alabama to Trussville City Schools bus driver, David Black, for the Transportation South’s 2018 Love the Bus State of Alabama School Bus Driver of the year award.
“I’m reading a resolution from the Alabama Senate commending David Black on his selection of the 2018 Love the Bus State of Alabama School Bus Driver of the year,” said Sen. Shelnutt. “Whereas Mr. Black was the first Trussville City School’s elementary school bus driver of the year voted on by students and parents. Students described him as strict, funny, caring, safe, always has a smile, funny story or joke when a student is feeling down. Throughout the years, Black has earned admiration and respect for his exceptional character, dedication and concern for students at the Trussville City Schools and has truly earned this significant honor upon.”

Following the regular Board meeting, the Board adjourned for an executive session. The next meeting of the Trussville City Board of Education will be on September 17 at 6 p.m. There will be a work session prior to the board meeting beginning at 5 p.m. The Board Retreat has been changed to October 22.
