ST CLAIR COUNTY – The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding email terrorist threats to the Board of Education and the St. Clair County Clerk’s Office on Monday, September 4.
The threat implied an explosive device would cause damage at the St. Clair County Courthouses, along with Pell City and Ashville Schools. These threats were treated with the highest priority and a sweep was made with all available manpower and K9 units. The locations were cleared and normal operations resumed.
The intense investigation resulted in a suspect being identified, as Danny Ray Nichols, 37, from Springville. Nichols was questioned, arrested and booked in the St. Clair County Jail on two counts of terrorist threats with no bond. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be available at a later date.
The St Clair County Sheriff’s Department commended the FBI, State Fire Marshals, Pell City PD, Springville PD, Moody PD and Alabama Fusion Center for their assistance in this incident and arrest.
