TRUSSVILLE – Celebrating the dedication and the extra commitment required to be a successful student-athlete is what motivated Bedzzz Express to sponsor a Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award.
Now through the end of October, principals from Center Point, Clay-Chalkville, Hewitt Trussville, Pinson Valley, and Springville high schools will honor student-athletes of their choosing with the award. Within the ten-week fall sports season, two weeks will be allocated to each of the five schools.
Nominees can participate in any school-sponsored sport and should excel in the classroom while also balancing athletics.
“Playing football in high school helped me learn the value of a team concept and hard work, especially during two-a-day practices in the August heat. But my grades were better when I was playing football because it required me to be more efficient with my time,” recalled Bedzzz Express CEO Clark Cooper.
In addition to the weekly media space where recipients will be announced and honored Bedzzz Express is also sponsoring a $1000 Leadership Scholarship.
At the conclusion of the fall sports season, all Bedzzz Express Scholar-Athletes of the Week and all OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports MVPs of the Week will have an opportunity to apply for the Leadership Scholarship. A committee will review the applications and select one recipient of the $1000 scholarship.
Cooper offered, “Bedzzz Express wishes all athletes the utmost success this season in and out of the classroom.”
Weekly award winners are announced Wednesdays in the print edition of the Trussville Tribune as well as on Tribune Sports Live.
